Rockstar Style 101

Ever wonder how fabulous fashionistas like Gwen Stefani, Angelina Jolie, and Madonna pull off all their wonderfully crazy outfits? Now, most of what they wear wouldn't work off of the red carpet, but you can incorporate elements of their fabulous style into your everyday wardrobe. You don't need to be a celebrity with a perfect figure to get away with wild looks, but there are a few rules that need to be followed in order to look like a style maven instead of a fashion victim.

1. Start with one statement piece of clothing at a time. For example, if you've got a brightly patterned tiger striped skirt, pair it with a simple black top and sleek silver jewelry. Remember that jeans or a plain white or black tee will tone anything down. Also, avoid bright makeup shades when you're wearing bold colors; whether you match or clash, it's just too much. You can wear more than one bold accessory, such as a bright red bag and shoes, but make sure they have a similar look - no heavy structured bags with espadrilles, or delicate necklaces with heavy cuff bracelets.

2. The fit is also key - all eyes will be on you, so make sure that your outfit is flattering. There is nothing less stylish than wearing an ensemble that just doesn't fit correctly, and you want to stand out for good reasons, right? Draw attention to the positive by wearing bolder pieces and brighter colors on your good features. For instance, highlight a small waist by cinching a wide metallic leather belt over a basic turtleneck, or show off shapely shoulders with a satin halter. Or just wear all black and go with wild accessories, like lime green pumps or a chunky turquoise necklace.

3. Good posture is vital to pulling off rockstar looks. You can't wear a black leather pencil skirt and slouch, can you? Even the most amazing outfit can look frumpy and boring if the wearer has poor posture. So remember to stand up straight - it's the cheapest and easiest way to look fabulous and five pounds thinner!

4. Confidence goes hand in hand with good posture. Wear fabulously out-there pieces you love, and you'll always look great. Just remember to keep it simple, wear what fits your figure well and works with your coloring, and to stand tall and show off your amazing style.
