3 Reasons to I Like to Shop Alone

Check out this fabulous post from That Dress is Divine on Shopping Alone. Like her, I prefer to shop alone when I am on a serious mission. Here's why:

1. I am very, very speedy and decisive. It only takes me a few minutes to size up a store and decide if it is worth digging through the racks or trying things on. I also tend to try things on quickly too - it only takes me a minute or two to decide if something looks good. When shopping alone, I don't have to wait for a friend who prefers to take her time - and I can't make my companion feel rushed.

2. I can be anti-social if I want to be. When I'm on a quest or otherwise in a serious shopping mood, I don't like to be sidetracked, and unlike an overly helpful sales associate*, you generally have to pay attention to your friends. I'm not really a fan of shopping as a social activity either, which brings me to my next point...

3. It may seem weird, but I don't like to spend tons of time in stores, especially malls. After all, when you spend a significant chunk of time writing about fashion because it's your job, shopping becomes a much less enticing way to spend your free time.

*I'm not complaining about bad service here (I've worked retail in the past, so to customer service employees everywhere, I feel your pain - the customer is not always right), just about the disturbingly friendly and slightly pushy salespeople who stalk you through the store.

How do you prefer to shop?

I enjoy shopping with somebody, BUT I will be shopping for them, not for myself. The exception to that is possibly shopping with a very close relative, but even then, whatever I might be shopping for will be on the back burner.

You're so right Rebecca - whenever I shop with anyone else I tend to look for them, not me. I do enjoy doing that - I shop alone when I really need to find something for myself, but I do manage to shop well with my mom (she's a speedy scanner type too, so that probably has something to do with it).
