Fall Trend Report

It's October 1st, and here in the Midwest at least, it finally feels like fall, so here are my favorite fashionable items for fall 2007.

1. BOOTS! Forgive me for shouting, but there is something I just love about a beautiful pair of boots. Whether they are cute little ankle boots or dramatic knee-high black leather, I'll be rocking lots of boots this fall. Some of my current favorite looks are plush suede booties, lace-up boots, and anything with a touch of patent (while I've seen some gorgeous boots that are entirely patent leather, it's a difficult look to wear). Check out these gray button-cuff Franco Sarto boots if you're in the market for something new and kind of trendy.

2. A-line or swing coats, particularly the cropped styles. Worn with something narrow on the bottom - think skinny pants or pencil skirts, these create a chic silhouette that's fun to experiment with and a little unusual. Reluctant to splurge on a one-season piece? Try this basic black pleated swing jacket by Isaac Mizrahi for Target.

3. Motorcyle or bomber jackets. There are very few things that I won't pair my black leather jacket with, and it gives any old outfit an edge. To me the perfect leather jacket is worth investing in, so on that note, check out this butter-soft bomber by Madison Marcus.

4. Ultra-soft jersey dresses in black and jewel tones. These cozy frocks feel like pajamas but look like you made an effort, and they're excellent layering pieces, as well as being perfect for lazy chilly days with tights and your favorite pair of boots. This James Perse v-neck dress makes an excellent cold weather basic (actually, that label has lots of good options).
5. Unusual sleeve details, such as poet sleeves, dolman sleeves, bell sleeves, and other interesting sleeve treatments. Tops, dresses, and jackets with these details are a great to update your look - and they can draw attention away from less-than-perfect upper arms if you feel so inclined, especially they have flowy poet sleeves like this cowl neck sweater by Francine.

Of course, there are always fall classics like peacoats, turtlenecks, and anything cashmere to fall back on. So now tell me, what are you planning on wearing this season?
