The Wearing of the Green: Top It Off

On St. Patrick's Day, there are two things you need to top off - your outfit and your beer. The choice of beer is up to you (Guinness, people - it is good for you!), but here are some adorable green tops that have plenty of Irish spirit.

The Wearing of the Green: Embrace Your Inner Magpie

St. Patrick's Day can be lots of fun. Jewelry and sparkly things can also be lots of fun. So why not combine the two and adorn yourself with some glittering green jewels? The right shade of green can be incredibly flattering (try warm shades - think yellow undertones - for warm skin tones, and blue-tinged green for cooler complexions), and an emerald-colored necklace or bracelet is a good way to show your Irish spirit on the 17th and it will be still be be wearable the rest of the year.

And if none of these are your thing, check out Dasha Boutique's fabulous selection of green necklaces, earrings, and bracelets here.

The Wearing of the Green: Dress It Up

Just because St. Patrick's Day is typically spent drinking green beer and enjoying all things Irish in a rather casual fashion doesn't mean that you can't dress things up a little. Check out these simple but stylish shamrock-hued frocks and glam it up a little for St. Pat, or save your gorgeous green dress for future spring celebrations.

The Wearing of the Green: Handbag Edition

Yesterday I featured some green shoes for St. Patrick's Day; however, a cute pair of pumps is definitely not the only way to show your Irish spirit. For instance, an emerald green handbag is another fun accessory that will stay stylish post-holiday as well. Here are some options:

All of these bags are under $100; the clutch in the middle is actually only $14.99 at Target, and the other two are available at Ebags.com (on the left) and Steve Madden (on the right). Perfect for carrying on St. Pat's, and afterwards - a bright green bag is a great accent with a neutral outfit.

The Wearing of the Green

I heart St. Patrick's Day - I went to Notre Dame, after all, and I can definitely get behind a holiday that includes drinking some delicious Irish beer. Therefore, this week I'll be posting a variety of green items that are perfect for celebrating all that is Irish.
Let's start with shoes, because a great pair of shoes is the foundation for every outfit.

Whether you like classic pumps or something a bit more distinctive, there are green shoes for everyone. Need pairing options? Try mixing kelly green with navy or icy pink for a preppy look; it also works with yellow and other shades of blue. Just avoid red, as red and green don't exactly evoke the correct holiday.

The Chameleon Dress, Via Etsy

Long time readers of this blog might know that I am a huge fan of items I can wear multiple ways, like convertible dresses. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that I covet this gorgeous deep blue dress by Etsy seller Isadora Clothing. I wish I had caught it before it sold out!

She's definitely a seller to watch - check out the rest of her creations here. And if you've never shopped Etsy, what are you waiting for? There are tons of interesting one-of-a-kind items to be found.

Yay or Nay: Leather Pencil Skirts

A while back I got an email from a reader, answered their question, and promptly forgot to post it on my blog (hey, at least I answered them, right?). Anyways, the question was about leather pencil skirts - trashy or potentially classy, with the right outfit? Or are they forever relegated to Halloween costumes and dominatrix apparel?

Now, any piece of leather clothing that is not a jacket can be tricky to wear - there is fine line between looking sleek and sexy and looking well, cheap. First of all, "fitted but not overly tight" should be your mantra; besides the fact that ultra-tight clothing flatters almost no one, you need to be able to walk in your skirt! Second, let the skirt be your va-va-voom eye-catching piece and keep the rest of your outfit on the tailored side. Crisp button downs, simple turtle-necks, and even basic tees all work.

Third, this is not the time to go for the mini - keeping it around knee-length is much more elegant. Last but not least, rich neutrals and jewel tones are easier to pull off than black or brights, so think chocolate, cognac, and burgundy, perhaps with interesting details like an embossed crocodile print.
