Glove Up

Many, many designers showed gloves as an accessory this season, paired with everything from the expected (coats, capes) and the unexpected (minidresses, suits). Elle magazine - and moi - even featured opera length black gloves from La Crasia as one of their must haves for fall. But long isn't the only option - there were tons of different styles on the runways, like ultra cropped at Chanel and colorful at Louis Vuitton.

I like how the bright gloves provided a brilliant pop against Brioni's beautifully cut, somber clothes, and this coat by Lanvin is to die for - for some reason it reminds me of a gothic little red riding hood. The gloved look also works for evening, as evidenced by this Rocco Barocco number.

Malo featured gloves to add a touch a of elegance to his otherwise austere dresses, and Oscar de la Renta paired gloves with classic, feminine dresses for evening - this look has appeal across the board, from punk-rock chicks to minimalists to ladies who lunch.

This Versace look is an example of a popular silhouette for fall - bracelet or three quarter length sleeves paired with long gloves, and the deep midnight blue shade is one of the hottest colors as well.

This Richard Chai look shows how black leather can toughen up an otherwise ethereal gown. The gloves and boots take this dress from sweet to grown-up and sexy.

Whatever sort of gloves fit your style, be sure to try at least one pair this fall - not only are they stylish, they'll keep you warm(er) - for once, fashion is semi-practical!
