Glamorama 2007

Last Friday, I got to attend Macy's Glamorama - it's one of Chicago's biggest fashion events, featuring a concert (this year Muzik Mafia, a supergroup that includes Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, and Cowboy Troy, performed), an elaborate after-party, and of course, a fashion show. Since the name of the show - "The Good, The Bad, And The Beautiful - is remarkably similiar to my typical fashion coverage (I usually use the "the good, the bad, the ugly" construction), we'll stick with that.

The Good:

Muzik Mafia put on an excellent, lively show - I'm not much of a country fan, but the upbeat honky-tonk party music fit the bill for a country meets couture kind of event. The afterparty also falls into this category, thanks to the delicious food (the menu was composed by Iron Chef Cat Cora - there was lots of barbeque and southern food) and of course, the many bars stocked with all sorts of booze. I was also impressed by the transformation that the Macy's State Street underwent - in the space of a few hours, the seventh floor had been completely redone to fit the country western theme.

The Bad:

With the exception of the heat and humidity, I can't think of anything to put in this slot, which is definitely a good thing for Macy's (remember Chicagoans, I'm talking about the event only here, not about my feelings towards Macy's as a whole).

The Beautiful:

The clothes! The fashion show portion of the evening included looks from Donna Karan (some gorgeous evening gowns, the rest was kind of meh), Just Cavalli (tons of fun, but most styles were pretty unwearable unless you're a starlet or model), and Macy's Fur Vault (lots of seventies inspired coats and vests). My two favorite collections were Temperley London, which was all kinds of girly-glam, and Alberta Ferretti - plenty of cozy coats and a few stunning evening gowns that I'm sure we'll see again come awards season.

Of course, there is one more thing that falls into the "beautiful" category, and that is the shirtless cowboys who were part of the finale.
The verdict: plenty of fashionable fun.

Not to be catty, but is that a model or a Barbie? Love the color of the dress, though!

Yeah, a lot of the models were a little Barbie-esque - the clothes were great though!
